Witemeyer’s favorite way to incorporate humor is through narrative voice. If the character’s narrative is written from the point of view of someone who has a humorous voice (self-deprecating, sarcastic, naively clueless), that adds a lot of humor without the need for gimmicks or gags. Another favorite method of hers is to use secondary characters to add humorous banter. Children, quirky elderly characters, a teasing best friend, all of these can liven a scene and leave the reader grinning.
